You probably know the advice. If you want to be successful, you have to get up early, read entire bookshelves a year, exercise intensively every morning, meditate, you name it. But are these habits really the key to success? And if not, then what? How can you also become successful?

For every successful millionaire who meditates, there is one who is anything but zen. What do all successful people have in common?

The secret to success?

Let’s start with a hard truth: there is no secret step-by-step plan you can follow to become successful. There is no one size fits all solution. Joseph Mavericks of Enterpeneur’s Handbook recently found out when he interviewed 75 successful people to discover the secret to success.

“Of course there are patterns to be recognized,” he writes. “For example, an overwhelming majority are early risers, reading a lot and writing down their thoughts. I definitely believe that there are some habits that have been proven to lead to greater success in most cases. But you cannot say that there is one clear way to achieve success.”

From the beginning of his project, Mavericks has been trying to figure out what these people had in common. Whether that was multiple factors or a simple little thing. “I could always find patterns and trends, but never a general truth,” he explains.

“It sounds too easy, too obvious,” says Mavericks. “But if it did, everyone would be working on their dreams.” How many times have you had a good idea and then didn’t follow through? We all run into the same obstacles at a time like this. The difference between overachievers and everyone else is that overachievers keep pushing.

Why successful people succeed and others fail

There are two common reasons why many people don’t turn their ideas into reality. First of all, because we want…
